If there is one type of cycling that has won the hearts of bike lovers in recent years, it is gravel. And this year, western Asturias is once again the perfect setting to experience it.
The II Gravel Trophy San Tirso de Abres already has a date, and with it returns the Asturias Gravel Championship, which in its second edition promises to surpass everything experienced in the first.
¿Why San Tirso de Abres?
San Tirso de Abres is a small municipality in western Asturias that hides along its paths and tracks a combination that is hard to find: untamed nature, just the right altitude and a variety of terrain that delights any gravel lover. It is one of those places that, once you discover it on a bike, you cannot believe it is not more well-known.
What does the race involve?
The competitive race covers 75 km with 1,600 meters of positive elevation gain. The route has been redesigned for this edition and includes three passes through San Tirso de Abres: a first shorter and flatter lap, and two laps of the longer circuit where the real challenge lies, with the most demanding and technical sections.
In short: varied terrain, spectacular scenery and a genuine test for those who want to compete in an official race.
What if I don’t want to compete?
Here comes the big news of this year: a new non-competitive format of 45 km and 900 m of elevation gain makes its debut. This option is designed for those who want to experience the event without the pressure of the clock. It includes the short lap plus one pass through the longer circuit, so don’t go thinking it’s just a leisurely ride.
It is perfect if you are just getting into gravel, if you want to ride with family or simply if you prefer to enjoy the scenery at your own pace.
HOW TO SIGN UP?
Registrations are open through Rock The Sport. Don’t wait too long, this type of event tends to fill up fast.
