Asturias Day 2026 - Programme in the Eo Estuary

Did you know that this year Asturias Day is being celebrated right next door?

We have some news that makes us really excited: this year, 2026, the Principality of Asturias has chosen the Eo Estuary to celebrate Asturias Day, which means that from September 5 to 8 Vegadeo, San Tirso de Abres and Castropol will be filled with music, markets, tradition and festivities. And yes, you read that right: San Tirso de Abres, the village where our Casona is located, gets to experience one of the biggest days of the celebration.

Four days of events spread across A Veiga/Vegadeo, San Tiso d’Abres, As Figueiras and Castropol, with street parades, concerts, markets, tastings, guided tours and even a hot air balloon flight. We’ll walk you through the highlights of each day and, above all, which activities need advance booking so you don’t miss out.

Important – Activities with limited spaces

First things first: some of the most special activities of Asturias Day 2026 have limited spaces and require advance registration. They tend to fill up fast, so sign up as soon as you can:

Guided tour of the A Veiga/Vegadeo sculpture ensemble, with a poetry performance — Saturday, September 5, 4:30 pm. Departing from the Town Hall Square.
Guided tour of San Tiso d’Abres — Sunday, September 6, at 12:00, 1:30 pm, 4:00 pm, 5:30 pm and 7:00 pm. Departing from the O Piñeiro Recreation Area.
Sailor’s knots workshop — Monday, September 7, 6:30 pm. As Figueiras Harbour.
Guided tour of Castropol — Tuesday, September 8, at 12:00, 1:30 pm, 3:30 pm, 5:00 pm and 6:30 pm. Departing from Vicente Loriente Park.
Tethered hot air balloon flight — Saturday 5th in Vegadeo (El Noveledo Recreation Area, 7:00 pm) and Sunday 6th in San Tirso de Abres (O Piñeiro Recreation Area, 7:00 pm). Each flight takes a maximum of 4 people and you must be at least 1.10 m tall, so check the conditions carefully before signing up.

How do you book your spot? Tickets are collected free of charge on the official website. Keep in mind that the programme may change due to weather, so take a look before you head out.

The day-by-day programme

Saturday 5 · A Veiga/Vegadeo

The festivities kick off in Vegadeo with a day designed for the whole family:

The “ECO 21” organic produce market and the “Divertimento” exhibition by Luis Fega, all day long.
Street parade with the “El Penedón” bagpipe band and traditional games in Medal Park.
Communal lunch at midday: bring your own or choose from the local food options.
Live music in the afternoon and evening: Rita Ojanguren, Macavera, Bacotexo and Los Berrones close out the day in Medal Park.
Don’t forget to sign up for the guided tour of the sculpture ensemble (4:30 pm) and the balloon flight (7:00 pm) — limited spaces.

Sunday 6 · San Tirso de Abres — the day closest to Amaido

This is the day we’re most excited about, because it takes place right in our own village, San Tirso de Abres, with the O Piñeiro Recreation Area as its hub:

Asturian market, bagpipe and drum duo, and traditional games all morning long.
12:00 pm Bike ride along the old railway route with EO ACTIVO and canoe trip on the Eo River with CIENTO VOLANDO, both free to join and perfect for the whole family.
Asturian cocido tasting and a talk on the traditional Easter “rosca” bread, with a sales stall.
Music and folklore: Pablo Canalís, AICA, Tejedor and, in the evening, Mostru l’Horru and Orquesta Assia.
A traditional sports display and a wheat-threshing demonstration, to get a close-up look at Asturian customs.
With advance booking: the guided tour of San Tiso d’Abres (several time slots), the hot air balloon flight at 7:00 pm,

Monday 7 · As Figueiras

On Monday the festivities move to As Figueiras harbour, with a more seafaring atmosphere:

Cider-pouring (“escanciado”) display and tasting of Asturian products.
Street performance “Gentes de mar” (“People of the sea”), by Higiénico Papel Teatro.
Concert by Marisa Valle Roso and, to close out the night, the drone show “Asturias Paraíso Natural” (“Asturias, Natural Paradise”).
With advance booking: the sailor’s knots workshop, at 6:30 pm.

Tuesday 8 · Castropol

The programme wraps up in Castropol, with the estuary taking centre stage:

Traditional craft workshops, an oyster showcooking demo and a floral carpet display on Paseo del Muelle.
Street parade with a bagpipe band and the street performance “Áncora” (“Anchor”), by Hipnótica Circo Teatro.
Boat trips along the estuary and the 1st Asturias Day “Bateles” Regatta.
Traditional music, with Orquesta Waykas closing the celebrations.
With advance booking: the guided tour of Castropol, at several times throughout the day.

Since the festivities arrive right in San Tirso de Abres on Sunday, September 6, it’s the perfect excuse to come and stay at La Casona de Amaido or at the campsite and enjoy a full weekend: festivities by day and the peace and quiet of our rural house to unwind at night. We’re just a short walk from the activities, with room for the whole family or a group of friends.
